Lumos Capture — install and get started
This page describes how to download Lumos Capture , sign in with your Lumos account, allow the necessary permissions, and find your way around the three tabs.
Download
Lumos Capture is free on the iOS App Store:
- From your iPhone or iPad, open the App Store.
- Search for Lumos Capture or use the direct link: Lumos Capture on the App Store .
- Tap Get, then confirm install with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple password.
The app is compatible with recent iOS versions (check requirements on the App Store page). An Android version is in development.
First sign-in
When you launch the app, the sign-in screen offers the same options as the web app:
- Sign in with email and password.
- Sign in with Google (if configured on your web account).
- Sign in with Apple (on iOS, native integration).
Use the same credentials as your Lumos web account. No separate account — the app and the web share the same profile and the same data.
Once signed in, the app synchronizes your existing inspections and displays the dashboard.
System permissions (camera and microphone)
To work, Lumos Capture needs access to two hardware components on your iPhone: the camera and the microphone. iOS asks for your permission at first use.
Camera
At your first photo capture attempt, iOS shows:
“Lumos Capture” wants to access the camera.
Lumos needs camera access to capture inspection photos.
[Don’t Allow] [Allow]
Tap Allow.
Microphone
At your first audio note attempt, iOS shows:
“Lumos Capture” wants to access the microphone.
Lumos needs microphone access to record audio notes.
[Don’t Allow] [Allow]
Tap Allow.
You can change these permissions anytime in iOS Settings > Lumos Capture. If you accidentally denied one, open iOS Settings, find Lumos Capture, and enable Camera or Microphone.
Why these permissions
- Camera — to capture observation photos directly from the app, without going through the iOS Photos app. This enables multi-shot mode (up to 12 photos per capture) optimized for the field.
- Microphone — to record voice notes associated with each capture. Transcription then happens through OpenAI (United States) with your explicit consent. See Privacy — Audio capture consent.
The three-tab interface
A bottom navigation bar offers three tabs:
Inspections tab
Your main entry point. List of your inspections of the day, previous days, and upcoming, with their status. See Inspections list.
Settings tab
All app settings: account, photo quality, sync, storage, language, theme, sign out. See Settings and sync.
Lumos tab
Opens the Lumos web app integrated directly in the app. You access all web functions (inspection creation, templates, bank, delivery, full settings) without leaving Lumos Capture.
The Lumos tab requires internet connection. The other two tabs (Inspections and Settings) remain functional offline for native functions.
Light and dark mode
Lumos Capture opens by default in dark mode (background #1D0F26) to reduce visual fatigue during prolonged use and save your iPhone’s battery.
You can switch to light mode via Settings > Application > Theme > Light. Choice is preserved for next launch.
Offline mode
Once successfully signed in at least once, the app works offline for all native functions:
- See your already-synchronized inspections.
- Capture photos, audio notes, text notes.
- Review already-generated findings.
What happens when you are offline:
- Your captures are stored locally in your iPhone.
- The “Processing” counter on the inspection detail shows “Stored, waiting for network”.
- As soon as connection returns, synchronization resumes automatically — you have nothing to do.
- AI processing of captures happens after sync (so once back online).
If first sync fails
If your inspections do not appear when opening the app after install:
- Check your internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular).
- Go to Settings > Synchronization > Resync all inspections to force a refresh.
- If the issue persists, sign out and sign back in.
