Settings and synchronization
The Settings tab in Lumos Capture gathers all native app settings. This page reviews each section and explains the offline-first behavior that makes synchronization invisible.
Access
Tap the Settings tab in the bottom bar (gear icon).
Account section
- Avatar + email of your Lumos account.
- My account > Edit your profile or delete your account link — opens the Lumos tab on your profile for full edits.
The native app shows your identity but does not allow deep editing — you go through the web app to edit your profile, signature, contact details.
Media section
Two settings related to photo capture.
Save photos to iPhone library
Toggle off by default. When enabled, every photo captured in Lumos Capture is also saved to the iOS Photos app. Useful if you want a backup in your personal library for archives or use outside Lumos.
Keep disabled if you want to avoid cluttering your iPhone roll with professional inspection photos.
Photo quality
Tap the row to choose between:
- Compressed (Fast sync) by default — balance between quality and sync speed. Adequate for the vast majority of inspections.
- Original (maximum iPhone sensor resolution) — for inspections where visual detail is critical. Slower sync, higher storage and bandwidth.
Adjust per your need.
Synchronization section
Three options that control sync behavior between the app and the Lumos server.
Auto sync
Toggle on by default. Sync triggers automatically as soon as an internet connection is detected. Keep enabled as a general rule.
Wi-Fi only sync
Toggle on by default. Limits synchronization to Wi-Fi networks, without using your cellular plan. Benefits:
- Save mobile data (high-resolution photos can be heavy).
- Faster sync on home or office Wi-Fi.
Disable if you want sync to happen even on cellular (e.g. on a job site without Wi-Fi).
Resync all inspections
Link that forces a full resync from the server. Use if:
- An inspection you expect does not appear in the list.
- You suspect desync after a change made on the web side.
- Technical support asks you to do so for diagnostics.
The operation may take a few minutes depending on your volume.
Storage section
Local storage used
Shows the space consumed by Lumos Capture on your iPhone (e.g. “1.1 MB”). Useful to track the app’s footprint, especially if you have many in-progress inspections with high-resolution photos.
Clear synchronized data
Red link. Removes from local storage data that is already synced with the server — your captures on the server are not affected, just the local copy.
To use when:
- You want to free up iPhone space.
- You finished a large wave of inspections and are moving to a new one.
Do not clear synchronized data if you plan to go to a no-network area. You will lose the ability to consult your recent inspections offline. Prefer waiting until the end of the trip.
Application section
Open web app
Link that opens the Lumos tab (integrated web app). Practical shortcut to the web app without having to tap the bottom tab.
Version
Current version number of the app (e.g. 1.0.6). Useful for technical support if you encounter a bug.
Language
Tappable to switch between French and English. Change applies to the whole app.
Theme
Tappable to switch between Light and Dark. Dark mode is the default — it reduces visual fatigue during prolonged field use and saves battery.
Sign out button
At the bottom of the screen, a large red-bordered button that signs you out from your account on the app. Your local data remains intact — it will be re-available at next sign-in.
Detailed offline-first behavior
Lumos Capture is designed to work without network for its native functions. Here is how it works in practice.
When you are offline
- The app opens normally — no block on server connection.
- The inspections list displays immediately (from local storage).
- An inspection’s detail opens without issue.
- You can capture photos, audio, text normally.
- Captures are stored locally on your iPhone.
- The sync indicator switches to airplane icon (offline mode detected).
- On an inspection’s detail with unsynced captures, the Processing counter shows “Stored, waiting for network”.
What does not work offline
- The Lumos tab (integrated web app) — does not load without connection.
- AI processing of captures — runs server-side, so deferred to sync.
- The full Narrative Bank if it requires a server update — the local version stays accessible.
When connection returns
- Lumos Capture automatically detects connectivity return.
- Synchronization starts in the background.
- Locally-stored captures are sent to the server.
- AI processing triggers for each capture sent.
- Once processed, narratives appear in the list as “To review”.
- The indicator switches to green dot + Synced.
You have nothing to do — no “Sync now” button, no forced wait. Sync is invisible.
Best practices for offline use
- Before traveling to a no-network area: open Lumos Capture connected to ensure your day’s inspections are synced locally.
- In the field without network: capture freely. Don’t worry about the “Stored, waiting for network” counter. Everything will be processed on return.
- Back at connectivity: leave the app open for a few minutes for sync and AI processing to finalize.
- Before clearing the cache: verify everything is properly synced (green dot) — otherwise you risk losing unsent captures.
