Highlights (AI summary)

Highlights is an optional narrative section that summarizes, in one to two pages, the report’s most important findings: what was observed, the risk, and the recommended action — with a reference to the full finding’s page in the PDF. It is the page your client reads first to grasp the essentials without going through the whole report.

Its distinctive feature: a Generate with AI button drafts the text from the inspection’s findings. The generated text is never final — you review and adjust it freely, like any narrative section.

Enabling the page in your template

The page is not part of any template by default — you add it yourself:

1. Add the text block

In the template editor, open the Add a text block menu at the bottom of the navigation (see GR.3) and choose Highlights. The section (magnifier icon) is automatically inserted just before your findings sections — its default position in the report. You can drag it elsewhere like any section.

2. Configure the AI generation

Below the text editor, the AI generation of the highlights card defines the values proposed at each generation:

Severities to include — the severity levels whose findings feed the summary. Default: Urgent, Specialist and Hazard. Check or uncheck to match your practice.
Custom instruction for the AI (FR and EN, following the header language selector) — free-form guidance for the writing, e.g. “group the points by building system” or “emphasize specialist recommendations”.

These settings are defaults: the inspector can adjust them at generation time, inspection by inspection, without touching the template.

As with any section, the Section settings card lets you make it optional (toggleable per inspection) or change its icon.

Generating the highlights during an inspection

Once your findings are complete in the inspection editor:

Open the Highlights section in the navigation.
Pick the writing language with the FR / EN tab.
Click Generate with AI. The dialog shows the checked severities (pre-filled from the template), the number of matching findings, and the custom instruction — adjust as needed.
Click Generate. After a few seconds, the draft appears in the editor: an introductory paragraph, one point per selected finding (section, subsection and summary), and a reminder to read the full report.
Review and adjust the text freely — it is your report; the AI only wrote the first draft.

Generating replaces the current content of the editor in the displayed language. If you have already edited the text, your changes will be overwritten by the new generation.

Generate last. The AI only reads the findings that exist at generation time — do it once the inspection is complete, or regenerate after adding important findings.

Page numbers

Each point in the summary carries a reference to the full finding:

In the PDF — the reference shows the real page number (”— p. 9”), computed automatically when the PDF is generated. If you reorganize the report, the numbers are recomputed on the next download.
In the web preview — the numbers are estimated from the displayed pagination.
In the interactive report (client portal) — there are no pages: the reference shows the section and subsection only.

Where the page appears

PDF — a dedicated page, positioned by your section order (by default just before the findings), with its own table of contents entry.
Web report preview — same position as in the PDF.
Interactive report (/myreport) — on the home page, in a card below the property photo, before the findings overview.

If the content is empty, the page appears nowhere — no blank page in the report.

Best practices

Stay selective. The summary loses its value if it repeats every finding — the default severities (Urgent, Specialist, Hazard) target what deserves the client’s immediate attention.
Check the tone. The AI writes in a professional BNQ style (“we”), but your review remains the final judge, especially for liability nuances.
Think bilingual. Generation happens in the selected tab’s language; if you deliver in both languages, generate (or translate) each tab.
