Student plan

Lumos offers free Pro access to students enrolled in an AEC program in building inspection at a recognized institution. Signup is entirely self-service — no need to contact the team. This page describes the eligibility conditions, how to sign up, and how long the free access lasts.

Why this plan exists

Lumos is designed for building inspection professionals. But getting hands-on with the real tools of the trade during your training is a genuine advantage. The student plan bridges that gap: full access while you study, at no cost, so your operational learning curve is already behind you when you start your practice.

Eligibility conditions

To benefit from the student plan, you must meet the following conditions:

1. AEC program in building inspection

You must be enrolled in an AEC (Attestation d’études collégiales) program in building inspection. Related programs (construction management, civil engineering technologies without inspection specialization, etc.) are not covered.

2. Recognized educational institution

Your institution must be recognized by the Quebec Ministry of Higher Education. In practice, these are the cégeps and collegial centers in Quebec that offer the AEC. Supported institutions in the app:

Signup is entirely self-service, in a few minutes.

Go to the Lumos pricing page and click the button in the Student section — or go directly to inspector.lumos.property/auth?type=student .
On the account creation page, Student Inspector is pre-selected. Fill in your email and password.
During setup, select your school, enter your student email (the address issued by your school — it confirms your student status), and your projected training end date. Training start date and group number help us but are optional.
Your Student plan is activated immediately.

Signup is based on good faith — no enrollment document is required. Your school-issued email address serves as your status marker. If you skipped this step during setup, you can activate the plan anytime from Settings → Subscription → Activate my Student plan.

Free access duration

Free Pro access remains active until 2 months after your declared training end date. Example: if your program ends in May 2026, your free access is valid until July 2026.

This window gives you time to launch your professional activity and choose the plan that fits your volume.

What the student plan includes

You have access to all Lumos features:

Unlimited inspections.
Full Narrative Bank (system and personal).
Default BNQ Report Template + ability to clone and customize.
Report generation (PDF and interactive web).
Lumos Capture on iOS for field capture.
All AI functions (narrative suggestions, BNQ Compliance AI Review, transcription).
Standard AI quota of 200 exchanges per month.

The training notice on your reports

Reports produced on the Student plan carry a discreet notice on every PDF page and at the bottom of the interactive web report: “Lumos Student — Not for commercial use”. It identifies the report as a training exercise.

The notice disappears automatically as soon as your account moves to a professional plan — regenerate a report and it comes out clean.

Use and responsibility

The student plan is offered in a spirit of good faith. By signing up, you confirm that you are enrolled in an AEC building inspection program.

Lumos reserves the right to revoke free access in case of commercial use within paid employment or internship, or in case of false eligibility declaration.

What happens at the end of your training

The transition is fully automatic — nothing to cancel, nothing to configure:

30 days before your access ends, you receive a reminder email with the exact date. A banner also appears on your dashboard.
7 days before, a final reminder.
On the end date (2 months after your training end), your account switches to the Starter plan automatically. Any inspection credits you have are kept, and all your projects, reports, narrative banks and data stay intact.
From there, new inspections are $10 each, pay as you go — ideal while your practice ramps up. When you regularly do several inspections a month, the Pro plan (unlimited, $110/month) becomes the better deal.
